About Susan
Susan Francis is a writer, teacher and editor and holds a Bachelors Degree in English, a Diploma in Secondary English Teaching and a Masters Degree in Australian Literature. Susan’s memoir The Love that Remains was published by Allen & Unwin in 2020. The manuscript was a finalist in Varuna’s Publisher Introduction Program. In 2022, she was awarded a Writers Victoria, Neilma Sidney Travel fund to research her second book, A Small Responsibility. In 2024, The Australian Society of Authors also granted Susan an ASA/AC mentorship prize for the novel.
The Saturday Paper, Island Magazine, The West Australian, Newcastle Short Story Anthology, Better Read than Dead Anthology and Meniscus Literary Journal amongst others have all published her short stories. She has also been listed for the prestigious Bridport Prize. Susan teaches writing workshops and facilitates literary interviews and mentorships. Her op-eds can be read in The Sydney Morning Herald and book reviews in Arts Hub, The Newtown Review of Books and Compulsive Reader.
Susan is an amateur photographer. She has lived in Indonesia, the United Kingdom and Spain.
